Best for

  • Quarterly portfolio update videos (record once, send personalized links to 25 clients) — higher open + engagement rates than emailed PDFs
  • Walking a client through "what this statement means" or "why we rebalanced" — show your screen + your face, way clearer than a paragraph of explanation
  • Onboarding new clients with a personalized welcome video that explains your process, your team, and what to expect over the first 90 days
  • Internal team training and process documentation — Loom's auto-chapters + transcripts make it searchable, so new hires can self-serve answers

Avoid

  • Real-time client conversations — Loom is async; use Zoom / Teams / Google Meet for live calls
  • Anything requiring strict review-before-send compliance gating — Loom's "record + share" workflow is fast by design, which can outrun a slow firm review process if you don't build a checklist
  • Highly polished marketing video — Loom prioritizes speed and authenticity over production value. For brand video, use Descript or hire it out.

Shortcuts

  • Business + AI tier auto-generates a contextual title, summary, chapter markers, and action items — saves you writing the email that introduces the video
  • Edit-by-transcript lets you delete a sentence from the video by deleting it from the transcript — faster than scrubbing the timeline for re-takes
  • Filler-word + silence removal cleans up "um", "uh", and pauses automatically; turns a 7-min raw recording into a tight 4-min final
  • Custom thumbnails with your face or logo dramatically lift click-through on shared links — clients click on faces, not generic video icons

Model variants

Loom doesn't expose a model picker. The Business + AI tier uses Loom's own transcription + summarization pipeline (95%+ transcript accuracy in 50+ languages) tuned for recorded screen content. You upgrade tiers rather than picking models.

Compliance gotchas

  • Don't show client account numbers, balances, or SSNs on screen unless the recipient is the verified account owner and you've added the appropriate disclaimer in the video description.
  • Loom transcripts are excellent for SEC/FINRA record-keeping (3+ year client comms retention). Set workspace retention to match your firm's policy and export periodically for cold-archive if needed.
  • Loom is owned by Atlassian — review the joint data-processing terms during procurement. Workspace admins can revoke individual video access; useful when a client relationship ends.
  • Always include your firm's required disclaimer in the video description (not just verbally) — it's easier for compliance to audit a text disclaimer than to listen through a recording.
